Until the damage is repaired, here are some helpful tips to prevent it from spreading:
1) Do not expose windshield to extreme heat or cold and keep out of sunlight if possible
2) Prevent contamination from moisture. If you have a stone chip, cover it with scotch tape.
3) Do not use reflective sunshades as they reflect heat into the windshield.
