What is windshield repair

Windshield repair is the process of injecting an optically clear structural adhesive into the outer layer of a windshield that has been damaged and weakened by a stone hitting it. When the damaged area is completely filled, the resin is cured by exposure to a special Ultra Violet light. An experienced windshield repair technician usually takes between ten to fifteen minutes to complete a repair and the vehicle can be safely driven off immediately afterwards. A properly done repair stops the damage from growing, permanently restores the original strength and reduces the visual distortion to that of a water spot.

Stone damage or stone "chips" up to the size of a 50 cent piece, and in some cases a single long crack up to a length of 24 inches. Best results are obtained when the damage is repaired right away, before contamination occurs from car washing, road grime, or inclement weather. Damage previously "repaired" by the customer or another repair service cannot be re-repaired.

Windshield repair is an economical, easy, fast, safe way to fix a stone damaged windshield instead of replacing it. Repair also saves the environment since windshields are not recyclable due to the lamination. Modern windshields are technological marvels. They are part of the SRS or air-bag systems as they contain the windshield when the air bag is deployed. An improperly installed windshield may not be able to contain the air-bag rendering it useless. There are also many built-in features in today's windshield like moisture sensors that turn on the wipers when it's raining, light sensors that turn-on the driving lights at night, defrosting pads so the wipers do not freeze to the windshield, antennas, special coatings and more. This technology comes at a cost, one which you pay for if you replace it.
